Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms and mom's to be out there. I know a lot of people are either celebrating their first Mother's Day with their baby home...including me!

Shawn's mom, Ian's Grandma Trish, came over last night and hung out with Ian while we went to dinner and a movie. Other than an afternoon out with our friends last month, this was our very first night out ALONE since travelling to China. We were gone less than 5 hours, but it was a nice evening out.

Grandma stayed the night and we woke up early this morning to head out for Ian's swimming lesson. First, Ian brought me my Mother's Day present, a new 8GB Zune, since I've complained endlessly that my gigantic 80GB model is like wearing a boombox on my arm at the gym. Best of all was the card that Ian made at school. It was modified to include an "& Polli" on the front with a bulldog sticker. It wouldn't be the same without mention of both kids. They took cute candid pictures of Ian at school and included them in the card. I'll definitely need to find a nice frame. My first Mother's Day card!

Ian had a great second swim lesson. Not a single tear and he remembered everything he learned from last week. He loved paddling on his tummy, and even got his face wet and dunked without crying. It was great for Trish to see Ian swim and show just how brave he is. Only his second week in the pool and he already looks like a natural.

We headed to Panera for lunch after, and having exerted a lot of energy in the pool, Ian ate a ton and was ready to go down for a 3 hour nap.

In closing, I want to wish my mom a very happy Mother's Day. I know we talked, but I'm sorry we couldn't be together to celebrate this year. I hope you had a wonderful day basking in the desert sun and not waiting on dad! We miss you!

Below are a few pictures of Ian's day with Grandma and more swimming highlights.

I muted the audio, but this shows a little of Ian's fearless attitude so far. Sorry, it turned out a little blurry, but I wanted to post something for Ian's Grama & Paga to see.

  1. Hi Steph, I learned something today I thought you might find interesting; An adoption is more binding than giving birth because it is a legal and court-ordered document. So on this Mother's day in the eyes of the law you are more Ian's mother than if you had given birth, but then you and Ian already knew that. Jo

  2. Just curious, how far from the orphanage was the earthquake? I checked the map and it looked lke quite a distance, but I was thinking of all those little guys and I am just praying they are ok. Aunt Jo
